Lujan Grisham is said to be interested in a position as Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) in a Biden administration given her work in health care, and CNN reported on Wednesday afternoon that she was the principal candidate for this post.

But the source who spoke to The Hill said the transitional sources did not know where “the HHS claims came from.”

Lujan Grisham’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Lujan Grisham is one of the country’s brightest Latin American political stars, and Hispanic groups have been pushing for Biden to select Latinos for important roles in his administration.

But if offered and refused a Cabinet position, it could mean other applicants are more likely to be in line for the HHS position.

Rhode Island Governor Gina Raimondo (R) is also reportedly running for the post, as is the former surgeon general. The fact that Lujan Grisham has been offered the Interior post might also raise eyebrows given that other politicians in his state are interested in the post.
