Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic strongly hinted in June that he would sign his over $ 200 million rookie supermax extension this summer.

There is no further question on this subject.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reports that Doncic agreed to a five-year, $ 207 million supermax rookie extension that includes a player option within the past year. The 22-year-old is the first player eligible for the maximum designated rookie extension as he has already been voted First-Team All-NBA twice (2020, 2021).

“Today is a dream come true,” Doncic told ESPN via a statement. “Basketball has given me so much and taken me to so many amazing places. I am honored and excited to stay in Dallas as a member of the Mavericks and I appreciate the support of my fans.

“Along with this new contract, I am also happy to announce that I am stepping up my efforts and focusing on expanding the Luka Doncic Foundation. home country of Slovenia, as well as the communities of North Texas.

“I am happy to share in partnership with 2K Foundations, we will soon unveil two basketball courts here in Slovenia. We are renovating the courts from my childhood where I learned and practiced the game. The opportunity for children to play on the same terrains and pursuing the same dreams that I had are something that excites me. ”

Doncic won Rookie of the Year honors in 2019 and is a two-time All-Star who, according to ESPN stats, averaged 35.7 points in seven playoff games this spring. It seems to be a matter of when, not if, he wins his first of several MVP awards.
