In an episode of America's Got Talent this week, a 12-year-old singer, Luke Islam, interpreted "Waitress's" It's All About Me. "

The song made Judge Julianne Hough cry and she gave him the coveted "Golden Buzzer".

The song and the rest of Waitress's score are written by Sara Bareilles.

The waitress tells the story of Jenna, a waitress and pastry expert who dreams of finding a way out of her small town and having a difficult marriage. Devouring her heart in her pies, she creates desserts that reflect her life backwards, such as "The pie at the key (of lime) for happiness" and "Betrayed by my eggs". When a pastry contest in a nearby county – and a satisfying meeting with a new person – gives Jenna a chance to make a fresh start, she must find the courage to grab it. Change is on the menu, as long as Jenna can write her own recipe for perfectly personal happiness.

The waitress opened on April 24, 2016 at Brooks Atkinson Broadway Theater (256 West 47th Street). Based on the 2007 film by Adrienne Shelly, Waitress is the first Broadway musical to have four women in the top four creative teams, with a book by Jessie Nelson, a score of six-time singer Sara Bareilles, author – composer, choreography by Lorin Latarro and staged by Diane Paulus, winner of the Tony Award.
