A representative of the actor told CNN Thursday that "Mr. Perry is currently under observation at the hospital."
The spokesperson did not want to explain what had led to his hospitalization.
Perry became famous in the '90s for his role in Fox's hit series "Beverly Hills, 90210" from 1990 to 2000. He currently plays the role of Fred Andrews in CW's "Riverdale".
A number of former co-stars of Perry's "90210" have used social media to extend their support and wish a speedy recovery.
Ian Ziering wrote on Instagram: "No word can express what my heart feels to hear the shocking news of today, let us all pray for its speedy recovery."
Shannen Doherty also went to Instagram to say, "My friend, I hold you strong and give you my strength, you have this."
The announcement of Perry's hospitalization comes one day after Fox's announcement of the "90210" reset that will feature all the original stars of the series, with the exception of Doherty and Perry.
