Luna Display remains persistent despite the new Sidecar feature of macOS Catalina

macOS Catalina introduces Sidecar, a native feature that turns the iPad into a secondary display for Mac. It's a useful feature that works well, but it's also something that third-party companies have been doing for several years.

One of these companies makes the Luna Display, a hardware dongle that plugs into the Mac to transform the iPad in a secondary display. According to the founders of Luna Display, although Sidecar offers similar connected technology, the Luna Display remains in place.

"We're not going anywhere," wrote CEO, Matt Ronge, and product manager, Giovanni Donelli, in a shared blog post this afternoon. The two will then explain that, although they are disappointed by Apple's decision, they plan to continue meeting the needs of creative professionals.

The founders of Luna Display also plan to expand on new platforms and see a "bright future" on Windows.

The Luna Display adapter has been in existence since its launch as a Kickstarter project in 2017. Prior to that, Astropad, an iOS and Mac application with functionality similar to that of Sidecar, was available for iPad or iPhone as a secondary display for a Mac.

Sidecar is available at macOS Catalina and it only takes a few clicks to transform a iPad in a secondary display. Sidecar however has its limits and is only available on new Macs from 2015/2016.
