Home Alone star Macaulay Culkin endorsed social media comments demanding that Donald Trump’s cameo in the film’s sequel be digitally removed and replaced with an older version of Culkin himself.
Culkin responded to a tweet that called for “a petition to digitally replace the asset in ‘home alone 2’ with a 40-year-old macaulay culkin” with the single word: “Sold.” Culkin then followed by responding “Well done” to another tweet which contained a comedic edition of Trump replaced with a blank space.
Trump appears briefly in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York when Culkin, as his hero Kevin, asks him for his way to the lobby of the Plaza Hotel, which Trump owned at the time. In an interview with Insider in December 2020, the film’s director Chris Columbus said Trump “got his way into the film” by insisting that he get a role in the film in exchange for the permission to shoot at the hotel.
Columbus added that Trump’s cameo was a popular move: “When we first screened it, the strangest thing happened – people clapped when Trump appeared onscreen. So I said to my editor, “Leave it in the movie. It’s a moment for the public. ”
A petition on change.org to replace Trump with Joe Biden had collected 189 signatures at the time of publication.
