While reflecting on the impact of her past drug use on her writing and recording process, MGK recognized two people in her life who were influential in her quest for help.

“When you have a partner, mine being Megan [Fox], sitting there with you on those dark nights where you sweat and can’t understand why you’re so in your head, to help you get out of your head and put it into perspective, it really, really helps, “MGK explained about his girlfriend, whom he first met on the set of their movie Midnight in the Switchgrass in March and started dating in June.

He also recognized blink-182 batsman Travis Barker as a leading mentor in his “grounding” process. The two collaborated on his fifth album My Downfall Tickets, which debuted atop the Billboard 200 for MGK’s No.1 debut album in October. “Travis Barker was huge in the grounding process, because he lived it. It’s very different from a priest or something like that, where I’m like, ‘How can you relate to me? It’s easy for you to tell me that I can overcome it when you’ve never encountered those obstacles, “he noted.” Whereas with Travis, it’s like, ‘ I know for a fact that you’ve been through what I’m going through. ‘”
