In a new interview, Machine Gun Kelly revealed he was going to be in therapy for the first time and opened up about his past drug use.

“Right now my drug of choice is happiness and commitment to art, rather than commitment to a vice that I believe made art. I’m taking action, ”the 30-year-old rapper said in conversation with Dave Franco for Interview magazine.

The ‘Forget Me Too’ punk rocker said he realized, ‘This is the first time I’ve been like’ Hey, I need to keep these two people apart ‘. Machine Gun Kelly and Colson Baker. The dichotomy is too intense for me.

Kelly also revealed that he had used drugs in the past to try to “unlock” something in his brain.

“Adderall has been a huge thing for me for a long time,” he shared. “And I went from oral to sniffing and then it became something that I was afraid to go to a studio if I didn’t have something. I wouldn’t even go out without a healer who would visit me and give me what I needed.

The rapper realized that he had a problem because of his drug addiction.

“You tell yourself that you can’t do this without it, when it’s really in you all the time,” he says. “If this pill did that for you, then everyone who took it would only make albums and songs.” And so it limited me.

Because Kelly is now at the start of his therapeutic process, he has admitted that he sometimes feels impatient with his progress.

“I’m still tearing my hair out,” he told Franco. “Why don’t I change overnight? How am I supposed to meditate for 10 minutes when I can’t even sit in my own brain for two minutes without distracting myself by doing something? It is really difficult.

However, the rapper said the commitment to change was “inspiring” and kept him motivated.

“The desire to finally be happy with myself invited a much more vibrant energy around us than before,” he explained.

Kelly said he also turned to Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker for mentorship.

“It’s very different from a priest or something, where I’m like, ‘How can you identify with me? It’s easy for you to tell me that I can get through this when you’ve never encountered these obstacles, ”he said. “Whereas with Travis it’s like, ‘I know for a fact that you’ve been through what I’m going through.'”

The artist said his girlfriend Megan Fox was there for him during the “dark nights” and to “help you get out of your head and put it into perspective, it really, really helps.

Kelly and Fox, 34, made their relationship official on Instagram in July. The rapper said it was the first time he had truly fallen in love.
