MacOS Big Sur update is breaking some older MacBook Pros

We asked Apple for comment. The company has asked at least one owner to send their system in for repair, while another said Apple’s engineering team is aware of the problem. For now, at least, you might want to wait for your old 13in MacBook Pro to update.

There is no certainty that this affects everyone. It’s a potentially costly headache, however. Known affected Macs are all out of warranty, even if you purchased AppleCare. While there is a chance that Apple may cover the costs in the future, you might be faced with an expensive repair or replacement if you need a system up and running in no time.
