On Saturday, a magnitude 5.3 earthquake in Point MacKenzie, Alaska was felt by thousands of people across the state.

The area is used to earthquakes, but they are not normally of this magnitude, an official with the National Earthquake Information Center at The Hill said.

To date, 2,794 people have filed a “felt report” with the United States Geological Survey, according to The data from his site.

It is not known if anyone was injured by the earthquake.

Officials say there is no threat of a tsunami, but there is the potential for aftershocks in the region.

Reports of those who felt the quake come from Point MacKenzie, Anchorage, Eagle River, Knik-Fairview and Whitehorse.

This earthquake follows a 7.1 magnitude earthquake that hit Japan earlier this month. No tsunami occurred in the wake of the earthquake in Japan either.
