One of Riverdalemost familiar faces to officially leave the series. Shortly after the show’s Season 5 finale aired, it was confirmed that Mark Consuelos would be stepping down from his regular role on the show as Hiram Lodge. Consuelos has portrayed Lodge – the father of Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes) and frequent villain of Archie Andrews (KJ Apa) and the Bigger City – since Season 2, and has also appeared in the short-lived sister series of the series, Katy Keene.
“So tonight’s episode is the swan song of Mark playing our villainous Hiram Lodge on Riverdale after four crazy and glorious years,” showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa said in a statement. “From the moment Mark joined us he was up for anything, one hundred percent determined to make Archie’s life hell. And the funny thing is, Mark couldn’t be more different from him. ‘Hiram. A chic pro and the nicest guy, always on the lookout for everyone. We wish Mark the best and hope this isn’t the last time we see Hiram Lodge. “
“First of all, I would like to thank Roberto Aguirre-Sacassa for this incredible opportunity,” added Consuelos. “Never before has playing such a bad character felt so good. A big thank you to the Riverdale fandom, the brilliant team and the incredible cast, whom I consider dear friends and family.”
While Hiram will be leaving the fold of Riverdale (at least, as a regular player in his procedures), it’s safe to say he came out with a literal bang. After paying a Ghoulie to burn down part of Pop’s, Hiram was arrested and then kidnapped by Veronica, Archie and company, and told him to leave town within an hour or else he would be charged with murder. Hiram appeared to be gone, but not before hiding bombs under Archie and Betty Cooper’s (Lili Reinhart) bed.
