A large nor’easter moving towards the east coast is expected to affect 110 million people, resulting in heavy snowfall, rain and high winds.
The storm will last at least until Tuesday, forecasters predict, and has already thrown half a foot of snow into the Midwest by Sunday morning. Parts of Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Pennsylvania will continue to see snow on Sunday, as snow and ice move east.
About one in three Americans are subject to a winter storm watch or a winter storm warning.
It will be the biggest storm in years for the Washington, DC area where snow has already started to fall. Residents around Baltimore and DC should expect something between four and nine inches of snow on Sunday, the National Weather Service said. The snow near the nation’s capital is expected to end mostly at midnight.
Parts of North Carolina and Virginia also experienced snowfall, but the heaviest fall is expected in southern New England and the tri-state area.
New York should expect snow all day Monday, forecasters warn. The storm will also hit the Poconos and much of the Hudson Valley. Northern New Jersey, eastern Pennsylvania, southern New York, and western Connecticut should all expect a foot of snow, with some areas reaching up to 18 inches.
By Tuesday, snow is expected to move north, covering much of New York City, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine.
“Make alternative plans for Monday now,” New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio told residents of his city on Sunday.
