PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – To be honest, it seems like we have at least a good snow in this season, probably more than one.

Everything is right for the snow to start falling on Sunday and ends early Monday.

The snow is expected to start late Sunday morning and early Sunday afternoon, with the heaviest and heaviest snow expected late in the afternoon and evening.

Given that the energy (or low pressure) at the origin of this storm is forecast to the south, we currently expect the heaviest snow to be south. The patterns trends have swept the storm south over the last 24 hours, but the Friday night weather balloon launches will be our first real sample of what this storm is all about, in terms of ingredients.

Currently, 2 to 5 inches are possible for much of the region, including the city of Pittsburgh.

It is likely that larger amounts of snow will appear in the hills and south of the Mason-Dixon line. At the present time, our first estimates suggest that snow could fall in a range of 6 to 10 inches.

North of I-80, accumulations appear lighter from 1 to 3 inches.

If track changes occur, you will see changes in the places where the heaviest snow falls.

The snow must be light and airy snow that falls for about 12 hours. The highest snow rates occur when the sun goes down between 8:00 pm and 8:00 pm Snow rates may briefly exceed 0.75 inches per hour in elevated areas, but the overall snow rate is not expected to be as high.

Snow totals will come from constant and consistent snowfall in the area.

Behind the snow are icy temperatures, with peaks in their twenties beginning Monday and continuing until Wednesday. Single-digit temperatures are expected Tuesday and Wednesday morning and windy conditions make Monday the coldest day of the week.

The first half of March looks pretty cool. Thank you, Mr. Groundhog!
