According to Waythamoorthy, although the Indian community accounts for 7.5% of the total Malaysian population, the number of criminal acts committed was extremely high and alarming.
He added that the problem was due to poverty and the lack of good employment opportunities and socio-economic development programs to increase their incomes.
"We will soon have discussions with related parties, including prison visits to meet Indian detainees.
"We will identify the prisoners involved and engage with them so that once they are out they are not ostracized but guided and offered good job opportunities," he said.
Waythamoorthy said that funds allocated for the development, upgrading and maintenance of Tamil-like national schools (SJKT) across the country would certainly be used wisely.
