Here is the production version of the amazing Mission E concept 2015: the Porsche Taycan 2020.
The car is a small sedan fastback sedan with an electric powertrain. Do not worry, these escape tips are just dummy units to deceive viewers.
The rest of the design is very close to the concept we saw for the first time at the Frankfurt Motor Show 2015. From the stylish front to the fastback roof at the 911-esque rear, the electric sedan Porsche is hard to mow at any angle.
Talking about Porsche adding a second sedan to its lineup has been touring since 2011. We are talking about Pajun, whose nickname, a coat rack of "Panamera" and "junior", was chosen because of the smaller size of the car than the Panamera. With the second-generation Panamera that has grown to nearly 199 inches, there's certainly room for a smaller, more design-oriented sedan.
The platform developed by Porsche calls J1. The dedicated electric car platform is a distinct design from the C-BEV developed by Audi for its upcoming electric e-tron SUV. It is also separated from the smaller SEM platform developed by Volkswagen for compact electric cars.
Regarding performance, here again the concept Mission E shows the way. The demo car featured separate engines for the front and rear wheels that delivered a combined horsepower of 600 horsepower as well as the vectorization of the torque on an individual wheel base. That was enough for an acceleration of 0-62 mph in 3.5 seconds and an acceleration of 0-124 mph in less than 12 seconds
The most impressive however was the battery of Mission E, which, according to Porsche, would offer more 300 miles range and be loaded at 80 percent capacity in just 15 minutes. The latter is made possible by a new 800-volt charging system. Porsche is working on setting up a network of fast chargers, including here in the United States.
The Taycan will have several levels of performance, however. This means that the base model might have less scope and fewer exciting numbers. The good news is that it will not be integrated into the stratosphere. We expect the price to be similar to that of an entry-level Panamera, for an amount of about $ 85,000.
Look for the Taycan to start in 2018, perhaps at the Los Angeles show. Sales are expected to start around mid-2019. After the launch of the sedan, we were able to see additional body styles. One that is likely to arrive is a high-mounted wagon previewed earlier this year by the concept of Mission E Cross Turismo .
