PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Jamal Yunos, fugitive politician from Umno, was arrested by Indonesian authorities, said Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

"I was informed at 6:15 pm (Malaysian time) that the Indonesian police had managed to arrest Jamal," said the interior minister in a statement released on Monday, July 2.

He said the Malaysian police had been contacted to extradite the leader of the Red Shirts in Malaysia.

He also thanked the Indonesian government and the police for their help.

Jamal is currently under investigation for at least six offenses, including the creation of public nuisances by smashing bottles of alcohol to protest the Better Beer Festival at Selangor's secretariat. construction on October 5th last year.

On May 25, the police launched a manhunt against Jamal after he was reported missing from his ward at Ampang Puteri Hospital.
