Mercedes-Benz A-Class hybrid plug-in debuting in 2019

The new W177 Mercedes-Benz A-Class is expected to receive a plug-in hybrid variant, according to a report by Autocar UK . The Class A PHEV will likely carry the brand's EQ Power badge and will join the existing line of gasoline and diesel offerings. With a zero emission racking capability, the upcoming model will rival the Audi A3 e-tron.

Prototypes of hybrid PHEV class A vehicles were tested before their eventual debut at the next Paris Motor Show in September. The report, which cited internal documents, said the car – dubbed the A 250 e 4Matic – could draw energy from a 1.3-liter 1.3-liter M282 petrol engine (165 hp), who will be married to a 67 kW (90 hp) Electric Motor

As its name indicates, it will receive an all-wheel drive, the combustion engine feeding the front wheels and the electric motor channeling exclusively the drive towards the rear axle. In addition, an uncoupled version of the engine (138 hp, but with the same 67 kW electronic engine) could also be offered in the A 220 e 4Matic

. it is planned to deploy plug-in hybrid versions of the A-Class, a purely electric variant is not in progress, although the newly developed MFA2 platform can accommodate an electric powertrain. Instead, such a model will be part of the EQ lineup and will be called the EQA, which joins the EQC SUV and a possible EQS later.

Last year, the boss Dieter Zetsche confirmed that Mercedes-Benz will offer an electrified. Version A of the E-Class has already existed in the past in the form of the E-Cell Limited Class A in September 2010.

In Malaysia, introduction of the W177 A-Class has been delayed, apparently due to problems production that has delayed the roll-out of the global sedan market. It will probably be on sale here at the earliest from the end of the year.
