Sony announces Xperia XA2 Plus, a phone to "entertain"

Many companies seem to think that their phones are the best for content consumption, and that's a great way to market a device. A phone that offers the best viewing, gaming and scrolling experiences makes for an attractive purchase. Today, Sony takes a literal approach by introducing its Xperia XA2 Plus, a phone "designed to entertain."

What does Sony consider worthy of entertainment, and what do we feel about them? Mainly, the phone has a full HD + 6-inch display with an aspect ratio of 18: 9. The device has rounded the corners of the screen and still includes glasses which is disappointing. At this point, I think most people expect their entertainment oriented phone to be virtually without glasses, but for a mid-range device, it's acceptable. It looks like it also includes a headphone jack, which is by far the most user-friendly feature that Sony can offer people who watch things on the go.

Here are the other specifications:

  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 processor
  • 3GB and 32GB RAM, or 6GB of RAM with 64GB storage
  • 23 Megapixel rear camera with video recording 4K and 120 frames per second -motion records
  • 8 megapixels, super wide angle front camera
  • Works with Android 8.0
  • Supports Qualcomm Quick Charge with USB-C
  • Rear Fingerprint Sensor [19659011] Available in silver, black, gold and green

We do not have any information yet on pricing or availability, although the XA1 Plus from last year cost about 380 $. Generally, this phone looks good. This is nothing out of the ordinary, but it also includes everything that someone would probably want in a midrange device that they use for streaming. But overall, it seems that Sony is trying to make upgrades to this phone line with slight adjustments (last year's XA1 Plus included a 5.5-inch screen vs. 6-inch screen) and a better processor with more RAM and storage. The phone from last year was also built for entertainment, but this year 's edition will probably do a better job by giving people a place to watch all their shows.
