KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama): The Malaysian Bar welcomes and congratulates Tan Sri Zaharah Ibrahim (pic) for his appointment as the new Chief Justice of Malaysia.
In a statement released Tuesday, July 17 Its chairman, George Varughese, said the Law Society looked forward to working with Zaharah.
"We wish His Lordship all the best in his new role and vital responsibilities, and we pledge to offer His Lordship our cooperation and support." He said:
Zaharah, 85, is the second woman to hold this post after Tan Sri Siti Norma Yaakob, who served from 2005 to 2007.
She occupies one of the four positions most elevated in the judiciary, replacing Tan Sri Ahmad Maarop, who was named president of the Court of Appeal
Zaharah was sworn in front of the chief judge of the High Court, Datuk Su Geok Yiam, at the Courthouse.
Zaharah was appointed Judicial Commissioner on 1, 2004, serving in the Civil Division of the High Court of Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur and later in the Criminal Chamber of the High Court of Malaysia in Shah Alam.
Zaharah was later appointed a judge of the High Court on July 28, 2006, and became a judge at the Court of Appeal. April 14, 2010 and promoted to Federal Court Judge on February 16, 2015. – Bernama
