KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Lee Chong's Ace Wei will not participate in two major competitions next month due to health problems.

The competitions are the BWF World Championships from July 30 to August 5 in Nanjing, China, and the 2018 Jakarta-Palembang Asian Games are will be held from 19 to 28 August in Indonesia.

The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM), in a statement issued Tuesday, July 24, said that Chong Wei had been advised by his doctor to rest and to to seek treatment after suffering from a respiratory disorder

"For the moment, he can not undergo a ucune intensive physical activity for a period of at least a month and therefore, we must withdraw him from the BWF World Championships and also the 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia In this regard, the BAM has asked the public and also the media to respect the privacy of Chong Wei and his family during his recovery period.

Several reports were quoted saying that the former world number one shuttles had not participated in training with the others shuttles from the academy this week, raising doubts ready to participate in both world championships and also at the Asian Games.

Chong Wei won the silver medal three times, in 2011, 2013 and 2015, after winning the bronze medal in 2005 at the world championships.
