Different models for different people
Even though these machines carry this "Pro" designator added at the end, this term is little more than a marketing. It's more than just professionals flocking to the most powerful portable notebooks from Apple.

For this review, we will address the basic model MacBook Pro 15-inch equipped with 16GB of DDR4 RAM, an Intel i7 six-core processor of 2.2GHz, which is a new version of the Intel i7. a Radeon Pro 555X AMD and 4GB VRAM graphics card.
We expect this to be the most popular model of Apple for users looking for a capable machine with a larger screen than the 13-inch MacBook Pro, rather than the i9 . way
From the outside, nothing of the exterior has changed since the last two iterations on the current design of the MacBook Pro
It remains well designed, largely made from this single block of aluminum. This unibody design is beautiful, elegant and remains one of the most portable professional machines we have tested.
There are always two Thunderbolt 3 ports on each side, with the right side also the headphone jack. For the moment.
Once opened, we see the same 15.4-inch Retina display we've had in recent years. It is an extremely powerful screen that looks great and supports the wide range of P3 colors for excellent color reproduction.
The borders are still a little excessive compared to the rest of the industry, but they seem to have to be modified to refresh as this iterative specification update.
Apple's all-glass trackpad remains the best in its class, which does a lot to improve work-on-the-job. Above this trackpad, there is a keyboard that looks the same as the previous models but has a lot of improvements under the hood
Clickity clack, that's the keyboard

As Apple is quick to note, the new keyboard is quieter than the front. Some said it was a minor change, but personally, I find it more important than that. There is a clear audible difference between the two and she was immediately noticeable.
This may be more of a side effect of the other noticeable change – a silicone barrier designed to prevent the penetration of debris. iFixit discovered this super thin membrane, and since then the Internet has been wild with speculation, wondering if it was the primary design change, and the only secondary noise suppression.
After a little testing, it seems that this membrane helps to prevent smaller pieces of dust from entering the sensitive internal mechanism, but does not solve it completely.
Only time will tell if this will significantly improve the longevity of the MacBook Pro keyboard. Some dismantling establishments think that this will be the case, but we will see with time.
At the level of typing, it's almost the same as the last generation, with not too much vertical movement, although they seem a little steeper this time. This can also be attributed to a new machine, and it can soften over time.
Obviously, the Touch Bar is still there, even if it has some tips here and there. , has largely disappeared in its potential. We only prefer it in a few cases compared to a standard set of function keys. Touch ID is still very useful, but we prefer to connect automatically using our Apple Watch to even use our finger.

Bluetooth

T2
Apple also added its internal coprocessor, dubbed the T2, that we first saw in the iMac Pro. This custom chip handles a lot of different system processes in the MacBook Pro. It handles Touch ID securely, facilitates audio and image processing, disk encryption, and even the "Hey Siri" feature.
The benefits are immediately apparent in all areas. The FaceTime camera is still in 720p, but with the T2, the white balance is better, there is less noise and it works better in low light.
The built-in pickups pick up the vocals a bit better, though there's a little more background noise.
Using FileVault Disk Encryption to slow down the machine a bit, but with the encryption of T2 management, it's a thing of the past
Speakers
Apple seems have learned a bit about the audio front with their work with HomePod and AirPods.
They are not noisier, but the internal speakers are now more complete and more balanced than in the past. It's particularly noticeable in midrange and bass when we play a variety of different music
The speakers on the MacBook Pro 2016 have always been great, but they've improved this time around. 19659009] Thermal strangling?
There was a lot of discussion around thermal limitation, especially with the i9 model of the MacBook Pro.
Apple has acknowledged this, and has released a hotfix to correct this problem. ] all models of the MacBook Pro 2018.
For all our tests, we rerun all our tests after the fix and used those values for this revision. As the i9 model was the most affected by this thermal problem, we will talk a little more about it in the review of Sunday 199.
Benchmarking in 3 .. 2 .. 1 .. go!
We ran a series of different benchmarking tests on our new MacBook Pro, and we are very pleased with the results we have achieved.
All the tests we did, we also used the 2017 MacBook Pro 15-inch with high-end i9 processor, and even a few on our 15-inch MacBook Pro 2016.
Starting with the least impressive , our OpenGL graphics test inside Cinebench R15. The AMD Radeon Pro 555X is not so different from the graphics of last year, and this is evident in the test results. After running the test four times in a row, we averaged 88.96 FPS. By performing the same methodology on our high-end Pro 2017, we have an average of 88.57 FPS. A change hardly noticeable.
What really caught our eye, however, is the impressive results of the Cinebench R15 CPU benchmark. The model from last year shot 763, for the best you could buy at that time. This year, based on the base model, we averaged 930.75. A huge difference year after year. Not only was it our average, but the test soared to 1053, eclipsing by far our best results of the last two years
The Standard Tests of Geekbench 4 yielded 4,972 and 22,009 unique and multi-core results on our new 2018 model, compared to 4,946 and 16,599 respectively. The single core is unsurprisingly largely unchanged, but the multi-kernel has had a huge boost. This is due to the new six-core processors that are located inside.
When one examines the pure processing power, it is clear that these new models constitute a substantial improvement. The basic 15-inch model will never be confused for a gaming platform, but it will easily be enough to soak your toes.
We did some export testing via Final Cut Pro X, and we have not seen too much improvement between last year and this year. But, when I ran the same 4K export on my 2016 MacBook Pro, I saw a substantial decrease in export times. In fact, my 2016 MacBook Pro took up 50% more than the new Pro, having exported an average 4K
Regarding the life of the battery with previous generations. Technically, the battery has been increased a bit, but it's more to compensate for faster DDR4 RAM and more power hungry processors.
Apple notes it for a dozen hours of use, which is just under a slight load. If you're dealing with intense video editing, that's about three. We are very happy with these results
