DHARAMSHALA: A Spanish paragliding pilot, Joes Lowis (40), who went missing four days back, found alive on Wednesday in hills of Kangra district in Himachal Pradesh.

As per the report, he was stuck there. Rescue teams lifted the pilot from Bandla hills with a helicopter following a signal from his GPS device. Bir Billing is a famous paragliding place where pilots from across use to gather these days.

Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Baijnath Vikas Shukla said that it was learnt that pilot has received an injury on legs. “It was on Saturday that pilot had gone missing after he flew from the Billing area on Saturday,” he said.

The search operations started just after the reports of missing came. At first, the signal received was from the area near Thamsar Pass but the rescue team didn’t locate him there. Later, it was on Monday that another location was received about the pilot from Bandla Hills. But it was too late for the teams to land the helicopter at Bandla Hills. They dropped food, warm clothes and a few medicines for the pilot.

“It was on Wednesday morning that teams left early for the spot and lifted the pilot from the hills. He was safe and was undergoing treatment at the hospital near Bir” said Shukla.

Bir Billing is known for the paragliding across the globe. It is going to host an international championship of paragliding on October 27.
