PETALING JAYA: Rafizi Ramli has claimed the lead in Perak, after tens of thousands of PKR members in the state went out to vote today to choose top party leaders.

The former Pandan MP said he got more votes than Mohamed Azmin Ali, the current deputy president he is trying to oust.

Rafizi said he won 61% of the votes and won in 19 out of 24 divisions in the state.

“With 158 divisions and 12 states in Peninsula Malaysia completing the voting process, and with only six divisions in Selangor left to vote, I now lead Azmin by 995 votes.

“This includes the results from Negeri Sembilan and Melaka which have been released,” he said.

Rafizi said he has so far garnered 47,542 (50.5%) of the votes, winning in 86 divisions, while Azmin won 46,547 votes, taking the lead in 72 divisions.

“This is a great result considering I don’t have any position in the government and am campaigning with limited resources.

“The results from the states, especially Perak, are a clear indication of the demands of the grassroots which the central leadership must pay attention to,” said Rafizi.
