Man Utd news: Jose Mourinho is making fans SUFFER from one thing – Red Devils hero | Football | Sport

That’s the view of United’s treble-winning midfielder Jesper Blomqvist, who believes it was always going to be difficult after Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013.

Jose Mourinho is under pressure in his third season at Old Trafford, having led the team to a disappointing start to the campaign.

United have already lost three Premier League games this term and been knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Championship outfit Derby.

Mourinho has been criticised for a negative style of play with midfielder Paul Pogba one of those to have blamed the system for a poor start.

And Blomqvist, who spent three years at United, knows the fans won’t accept a defensive style for much longer.

“It was always going to be hard to follow Fergie’s suit,” Blomqvist told The Sun.

“But what a lot of fans are really suffering now is more the way of playing football than the results.

“You can lose a game now and then and people understand but when you are United it’s this feeling that has grown so strong in the 20-odd years with Ferguson, that you play ‘the United way’.

“You keep attacking and you can beat and not be afraid of anybody.”

Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Ince agrees with Blomqvist.

“It looks to me like Jose Mourinho is stuck between the devil and the deep blue sea,” Ince told PaddyPower.

“Realistically, he wants to play defensively and nick a one nil win, but he knows that the fans and players at United won’t accept that. And they’re right not to.

“We’re three seasons into Mourinho’s reign now. There are no more excuses.

“You’ve spent a lot of money, if I was managing a team and they’d given me three years, and it was clear we weren’t up to standard, I’d expect to lose my job.

“Are we getting to the stage where United just aren’t good enough? Yes. They’re slipping too far behind, and can’t compete with the best sides anymore.”
