Real Madrid news: Revelation over potential Antonio Conte appointment made | Football | Sport

That’s the view of former Madrid club president Roman Calderon, who has spoken out on the issues facing the La Liga giants.

Real Madrid are looking for a new boss after sacking Julen Lopetegui earlier this week following a disappointing start to the season.

Lopetegui only took over the role in the summer following the departure of Zinedine Zidane but was shown the door after a 5-1 defeat to rivals Barcelona.

Conte, who was also sacked by Chelsea during the summer, is the favourite to take over in the Spanish capital.

But Calderon, who was Los Blancos’ president between 2006 and 2009, has revealed a demand that Conte has made to the club.

“He’s asked for three years and to come in with five people and have hands free for signings and transfers,” Calderon told BBC Radio 5 live’s Football Daily Euro Leagues Show.

“But that’s something the president [Florentino Perez] isn’t willing to accept.

“I don’t think Antonio Conte will be the coach the Bernabeu is expecting.

“He’s like Jose Mourinho – a defensive coach with normally three centre-backs playing counter-attacking football.

“That’s not what Real Madrid expect to see. The president tried this before with Mourinho.

“They didn’t win the Champions League and he left the club in a bad situation.”

Santiago Solari has stepped in to fill the managerial hot-seat at the Bernabeu while Real Madrid search for a permanent boss.

And Madrid star Nacho Fernandez has vowed to keep battling under Solari.

Nacho told beIN SPORTS: “We will work as if he [Solari] is here for the full season. He is from here, he is experienced, he has won titles with Madrid.

“We, the players, don’t have to make these decisions and we will see what happens but he’s a great coach.

“The squad was with Lopetegui, but we didn’t have any luck. Now we have a new coach, who is excited, and we will fight to the death for him, too.

“It has been a difficult time after the Clasico, where he had a result which we hadn’t expected.

“But this is football and, luckily, we had a game very soon after, which we wanted to win and above all score goals in. Obviously, it’s painful to lose like the other day but thankfully there are more games to come.”
