The FC Goa head coach did not mince his words following his team’s 1-4 defeat to Jamshedpur FC
AGENCIES, JAMSHEDPUR: FC Goa’s unbeaten run in the Indian Super League (ISL) came to a grinding halt at the JRD Tata Sports Complex on Thursday as they fell to a crushing 1-4 defeat at the hands of Jamshedpur FC.
A thrashing led head coach Sergio Lobera to declare it as the ‘worst defeat’ of his tenure with the Gaurs.
“We congratulate Jamshedpur, they played better than us in every department. I apologize to our fans. This wasn’t the best game of ours. This was a game which the fans didn’t expect. This is possibly the worst defeat of Goa under my coaching. We have to work hard and Improve,” the Spaniard stated after the game.
The visitors had to make do without the services of prolific forward Ferran Corominas due to a suspension but Lobera refused to attribute the defeat to the Spaniard’s absence.
“It is my responsibility that the team didn’t play well. Can’t say we missed a single player (Coro). The team didn’t do well overall,” he explained.
When asked to pinpoint what went wrong on the night, Lobera replied: “I don’t think we started defensively. They pressed well so we had to defend. We were neither good in attack nor defence. We were far away from our philosophy.”
“We played badly so we lost 4-1. As a coach, I take the responsibility.”
The Goans were on the backfoot from the very go against Cesar Ferrando’s men and Lobera rued his side’s failure to adapt.
“We knew how Jamshedpur plays. I told my players Jamshedpur will attack. Just that we couldn’t play our game tonight so we lost,” he stated.
The Spaniard will now hope that his men can regroup in time when they take on Delhi Dynamos at home on October 8.
