KUALA KANGSAR: The sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah, reminded the government of Pakatan Harapan (PH) to learn from the mistakes of the previous government when the population was ready to reject leaders who abuse their power.
In fact, he said that people are willing to expose and reject leaders who use their positions to defend their personal interests, accumulate wealth for their family members or become an instrument for businessmen.
"Learn from the mistakes of previous leaders. The public will be very disappointed if the newly elected government makes the same mistakes, not to mention bigger mistakes. "
The Sultan said this at the ceremony of inauguration of state awards and medals on the occasion of his 62nd birthday in Istana Iskandariah, here today.
Raja Permaisuri Perak Tuanku Zara Salim, Raja Muda Perak Raja Jaafar Raja Muda Musa, Raja DiHilir Perak Raja Iskandar Raja Dzulkarnain Sultan Idh Shah and Raja Puan Muda Perak Tunku Soraya Abdul Halim, were present.
Sultan Nazrin said the country's political culture after 61 years of independence demanded a new menu and recipe in a new political environment.
He added that political leaders must be able to read the message of the people properly to ensure that the people can live in harmony in a stable, peaceful and prosperous country.
"The method to gain influence through competitions to show who is more Malay, more Chinese, more Indian, more kadazan or more Iban, apart from competitions to show who is more Muslim, more Christian, more Hindu or more Buddhist, becomes more and more out of place.
"Instead, people are more concerned about seeing who is cleaner, more trustworthy, more transparent and more effective in the administration. People want leaders who are willing to listen rather than be heard, "he said.
The sultan added that the people also dreamed of a fair distribution of wealth, job opportunities, transparent governance and trustworthy leaders.
"The people dreamed of a just and equitable government, an administration based on laws that are not selectively enforced, an extremely honest judiciary, managed by impartial judges, without fear and without any political interference.
"People dream of a government that respects gender equality, racial equality, religious equality and regional equity," he said.
In addition, Sultan Nazrin said the people wanted better social services, such as educational facilities that could develop human potential, easily accessible health care facilities, better public transportation and affordable housing programs. recreational and leisure facilities.
"People dream of a country free from chaos and hostility, in order to live in peace and harmony with mutual respect and cooperation without being separated by racial and religious prejudices", he added.
