KUALA LUMPUR: MCA Deputy Chairman Datuk Seri is the new MCA President Wee Ka Siong.

His rival, Gan Ping Sieu, president of the MCA Kluang division, acknowledged his defeat and congratulated Dr. Wee for his victory.

"I called Dr. Wee and I congratulated him as the new president. I hope that he will lead the members in this difficult time and develop new talents for the party, "he said on his Facebook page Sunday night (November 4).

He said that the future of MCA will depend on Dr. Wee.

Gan also thanked his team for their hard work and encouragement over the past two months.

"This is the first time the party has used a wider voting system. More members participate in the vote. The election is more exciting. At the same time, members will have to respect the results.

Former President Tan Sri, Dr. Chua Soi Lek, is supported by Gan in the polls.

This party election also saw a new voting formula introduced for the first time.

The voting table is still in progress, but Dr. Wee is in the lead with 356 electoral votes against Gan with 127 votes.

The third presidential candidate, Ngoo Teck Keong, president of Beruas MCA Youth, got no vote.

At the same time, for the position of Vice President, Datuk, Dr. Mah Hang Soon, should win this position, winning 241 votes, while his candidate, Datuk Tee Siew Kiong (112), was clashing.

The team led by Dr. Wee is nicknamed WeeMah, taking his last name and that of Dr. Mah.

There are four Vice President positions and the WeeMah candidates who are ready for anything to be clean are Datuk Tan Teik Cheng, Datuk Seri Ti Ker Lian, Datuk Lim Ban Hong and Datuk Seri Yew Teong Look.

The team led by Gan is nicknamed GanTee, where Tee is Gan's vice-presidential candidate.

Delegates from 188 divisions of the country voted between 14h and 19h earlier.

There are 160 polling stations.

Johor leads the states with 111 electoral votes, followed by Selangor (105) and Perak (95) out of 637 electoral votes.

Meanwhile, Dr. Wee arrived at the vote counting center at 10:58 pm with his teammate Dr. Mah, who should win the position of deputy.

"There are still 144 votes left," Dr. Wee told the press, awaiting final official results here.
