Trump hates that Europe is punishing the American giants of technology, but is happy to steal the ideas of the EU

• US President Donald Trump is not a fan of Europe condemning the big US tech companies.
• But while defending the companies, he also said that his administration was exploring antitrust investigations that could lead to the United States being fined.
• His ambiguous position could be a ploy to keep the likes of Amazon, Facebook and Google in limbo.

If Amazon, Facebook, and Google are nervous and a little disconcerted by Donald Trump's state-of-the-art technology policy, his comments on Sunday will have done little to reassure them.

The US president told "Axios on HBO" that his administration was "very seriously" considering whether to open an antitrust investigation against the three companies.

The inspiration of Trump: Europe. Or more specifically, the $ 5 billion fine that the EU inflicted on Google in July for abusing the dominance of Android.

Trump pleaded fine on the day of his broadcast, tweeting that the EU has "taken advantage" of the United States and punishes "one of our big companies". He dubbed that feeling Sunday by saying that he did not like the EU's sanctions.

But that does not mean that the US president is opposed to the theft of the ideas of the EU. Its logic is simple: if someone fines Google, it should be America.

"The European Union is taking a lot of money out of our businesses and I have spoken to my people to tell them," You know, if they do, we should be the ones who do it, not them. "These are our businesses," he told Axios.

Exploratory work is already under way. Attorney General Jeff Sessions has been meeting with state attorneys general to determine if social media companies "intentionally restrict" freedom of expression and hinder competition.

And Trump has shown a taste for attacking Google and Twitter for what he sees as their liberal bias, even though his program against technology is only very pale compared to his anger against the media.

Instead, the president praises and threatens Amazon, Facebook, and Google. All this serves to keep these companies in limbo, which, as Axios points out, corresponds exactly to Trump's demand.
