KUALA LUMPUR: The National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) has proposed for the government to establish a new law that will involve the role of parents in
combating social problems among youths.
Its director-general Datuk Seri Zulkifli Abdullah said the new law would allow the authorities to call the parents or guardians to attend counselling sessions on social issues involving youth, especially drug abuse problems.
“AADK hopes the government will establish a special law involving the parents to pay close attention to their children’s actions to prevent them from getting involved in drug abuse and other social problems,” he told
reporters at the Antidadah Tea Talk programme at the Seri Rakyat People’s Housing Programme (PPR) near Pantai Dalam yesterday.
Zulfikli said the proposal was mooted following the raids carried out by the agency at the PPR projects found that many youth, aged 18 and below, were involved in drug abuse and that 58 per cent or 178 PPRs and Public Housing (PAs) locations in Kuala Lumpur, had been identified as red zones or high-risk areas of drug addiction.
He also recommended for non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and private companies to employ former drug addicts to help them in the recovery process. — Bernama
