KUALA LUMPUR: The Federal Territories Ministry and Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) are mulling plans to develop covered pedestrian walkways in People’s Housing Project (PPR) units to ensure the safety of residents.
Federal Territories Minister Khalid Abdul Samad said the move could be a possible solution to avoid residents from getting hit by falling objects.
“We are still looking at the matter and are looking for means to solve it,” he told reporters after chairing the third Federal Territories consultative council meeting yesterday.
Khalid was referring to a recent case in the Gombak Setia PPR where a 19-year-old boy, Muhammad Ikmal Abduk Razak, who had to be given 15 stitches on his head after being hit by a bicycle tyre believed thrown from a flat.
Khalid said the individuals involved in the case should not be allowed to stay in PPR units as they were irresponsible.
Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Nur Hisham Ahmad Dahlan said DBKL will also hold a special briefing with all residents of the flats units following the incident.
“We will call on all parties as soon as possible to find a solution because these incidents are happening too often.
“We will try to build a covered walkway. That’s why we need to look into this closely,” he said.
In another incident earlier this year, a 15-year old boy was killed in PPR Pantai Dalam after he was hit by a chair thrown from the top floor of the building.
Authorities are still hunting for those responsible in both cases.
