Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin says the shadow Cabinet should be recognised and institutionalised.

KUALA LUMPUR: Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin has urged the government to share necessary information, such as government expenditure and revenue, with opposition MPs, to prevent leakages.

Khairy said the effort was in line with the Pakatan Harapan government’s vision to reform Parliament as the country’s most important democratic institution.

“Perhaps the previous government was too secretive, so much so it courted criticism. However, if the (current) government wants to seriously curb corruption, the key lies with an opposition which can carry out checks and balances.

“We are the ones who will monitor the government’s spending, as well as the big projects and contracts awarded by them,” he said after appearing as a guest on the ‘MACC 360’ programme aired on Bernama Radio today.

MACC 360 is a collaborative effort between the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) radio station, MACC.fm, and Bernama Radio which highlights issues relating to corruption, integrity and governance.

Khairy said to ensure a successful reform of Parliament, the opposition’s shadow Cabinet should also be recognised and institutionalised.

He also proposed that the appointment of key government personnel such as the attorney-general and MACC chief commissioner should go through a set process in Parliament.
