PETALING JAYA: PKR’s political bureau said it has accepted the outcome of the party polls in three divisions, namely Julau, Tawau and Pensiangan which were plagued by problems, including allegations of fraud.

However, PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil said the party would cooperate with the authorities, including the police and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), which are investigating issues related to the polls.

The MACC will investigate allegations of vote-buying in Julau while police are probing tampering claims in the same division.

“The political bureau has also instructed the election committee to resolve issues related to the dubious votes in certain divisions and invited representatives for the two deputy president candidates to observe the process,” he said in a statement, referring to Rafizi Ramli and Mohamed Azmin Ali.

Earlier today, the party’s central election committee (JPP) declared as valid its elections in Julau, Sarawak, which were marred by allegations of cheating and software tampering.

The committee chairman Rashid Din had previously said that polling for the Julau division was suspended and a re-election would be held.

The Julau PKR division was embroiled in controversy following reports that its membership had surged from 603 on June 26 to 13,000 a day later.

Rashid, however, told FMT today that the election committee was standing by its decision not to hold fresh elections despite Rafizi’s statement that it was not fair to him and the members.

The initial results for Pensiangan were withheld as hundreds of voters had been unable to choose their candidates due to the short time given.

Tawau, meanwhile, went to the polls again after results in the division last week were not taken into account, reportedly over trouble and disruption during the election process.

Meanwhile, on a claim by the candidate for PKR Youth chief Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir that 11,422 votes for the post of PKR deputy president had gone missing, Fahmi said that the party had appointed accounting firm Baker Tilly to investigate the matter.

“We will also appoint an auditing firm in the near future to conduct an independent audit of the entire election,” he said.

JPP on dubious votes

Meanwhile, the JPP refuted Akmal’s claims about the alleged missing votes for the deputy president’s post.

The committee’s deputy chairman Adzman Hedra said Akmal’s calculations were wrong. However, he did not elaborate on the matter.

“They are trying to cast doubts and I’m not sure why.”

He also revealed that 90% of the 7,500 dubious votes detected were cast by individuals who were not even PKR members.
