GEORGE TOWN (Nov 14): A PAS Assemblyman today urged the Penang State government to stop the proposal to build two hotels on the peak of Penang Hill.
Penaga Assemblyman, Mohd Yusni Mat Piah said the State had been struck by two tragedies in as many years which killed 20 workers and the proposal to build the hotels on the peak of Penang Hill would be risky.
“I hope the State government will take into consideration the feedback from non-governmental organisations (NGOs) that want the projects to be cancelled as the proposal posed safety risks to the residents,” he said when debating the Supply Bill and the Motion on the 2019 Development Estimates at the State Legislative Assembly sitting, here today.
He said the PAS stand was similar to that of the Consumers Association of Penang (CAP) which wanted the State government to halt all development programmes involving risky hill slopes.
He said the hotel construction projects along the slopes of Penang Hill would pose concerns about the possibilities of land slides occurring besides the clash with the Special Area Plans (RKK).
