The two centre-backs will come face-to-face tomorrow evening when Croatia host Spain in the UEFA Nations League.

And ahead of the international clash, World Cup finalist Lovren claimed Ramos gets away with making mistakes because he plays with the best forwards in world, and their goals make up for his costly errors.

He told Copa90: “When he makes a mistake, he wins 5-1 or 5-2 and nobody cares.”

However, the Real skipper says he is not interested in Lovren’s comments, claiming he is just trying to put his name on the next headline.

“When he makes a mistake, he wins 5-1 or 5-2 and nobody cares”

Dejan Lovren

Ramos told a news conference: “I’ve said it many times. I don’t know if these things are said out of frustration or for other reasons.

“I’m not going to answer Lovren or whoever wants to win three front pages or start the news bulletin. Everyone wins things for himself on the pitch.

“I never say [whistles] are unfair. If the Bernabeu targets you a bit, it’s because they think you can give a lot more.

“I’ve seen great legends whistled. If in 14 years I’ve been whistled once, I have to be eternally grateful.

“When things go well I don’t get carried away and my critics won’t drag me down.

“The pressure is for those who have been there the longest. I don’t take it personally.”

Ramos has been at loggerheads with Liverpool fans ever since last season’s Champions League final when he appeared to injure Mohamed Salah.

Salah was forced off the pitch after just half-an-hour following a forceful challenge from Ramos, an injury which also infringed on the Egyptian’s World Cup campaign.

Modric

But Croatia captain and Real Madrid team-mate Luka Modric has played down the criticism of Ramos, describing it as “irrelevant”.

“Ramos is a great player and a great captain,” Modric said.

“In my opinion, all the criticism he has received is irrelevant. In football everyone has a very short memory.

“He has character and I am sure that criticism does not matter to him.”
