MELAKA: Former Melaka chief minister Idris Haron, now the state opposition leader, was today ordered out of the state assembly for ignoring the speaker’s directive to stop objecting to his decision.
Speaker Omar Jaafar had dismissed an emergency motion brought by Idris to debate the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (ICERD) but Idris continued to insist that it should be debated.
The Speaker rejected the motion saying that the federal government has yet to make any stand on the ratification of ICERD.
“If we debate the motion and adopt any decision, the decision will be overruled when the federal government makes a stand. We will have wasted our time,” he said.
Idris continued to object to the Speaker’s decision and engaged in a verbal battle for over 10 minutes with Pakatan Harapan assemblymen before he was escorted out of the House.
This was followed by the other 12 Barisan Nasional (BN) assemblymen staging a walkout.
