KUALA LUMPUR: The housing and local government ministry will look into whether the recent landslide at a construction site at Jalan Bukit Kukus in Paya Terubong was caused by violations of standard operating procedures in works carried out.

Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin said the ministry was assessing the matter with a report expected by next week.

“I will receive the report next week. This investigation will focus on compliance with the Street, Drainage and Building Act 1974 (Amendment) Act 2018 (Act 133),” she said when met by reporters at the Parliament lobby here yesterday.

The Dewan Rakyat approved the amendments to the act last week.

The act states, among others, that every development in areas involving a slope of over 25 degrees and a total altitude height of over 10m, is required to provide verified geotechnical reports certified by inspectors registered with the Board of Engineers Malaysia.

Nine bodies were found as of 6pm yesterday. They were those of three Indonesians, five Bangladeshi men and a Myanmarese woman. Another Bangladeshi man still missing is believed to be buried in the debris.

The landslide which buried the workers’ container homes at the site also saw four people injured: a Bangladeshi man; two Indonesian women, one of whom was pregnant; and a Cambodian woman.
