The Google Messages app from Android gets its own browser-based web service, just like the one you know from Whatsapp and Telegram.

This allows users to send and receive text messages over the Internet by connecting their smartphone to a browser on another computer.

To send and receive messages via a browser, you visit the website https://messages.android.com and scan a QR code. You can now use a keyboard and a large screen to write text messages. If you are not on an unlimited data plan, make sure your smartphone is connected to the internet using a WiFi network.

In addition to the usual texts, Android Messages also supports RCS messaging. Favored by Google, the new standard intended to supplant regular SMS texts allows you to send and receive messages containing images, videos and other additional content. However, your local mobile network operator may not yet support the feature, depending on where you live.

Android Messages is available for free on the Google Play Store. You can also choose to make the program your standard application for processing regular text and RCS messages: Go to "Settings" in the application, then "Default Email Application" and select "Messages" from the menu.
