JAYA PETALING: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim gave his assurance that the decision to recognize the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) would not threaten the importance of Malay Bahasa as a national language.
In an interview with Astro Awani on Thursday (July 12), the advisor to PKR said that Chinese education figures agree that Bahasa Malaysia will not be marginalized.
"We can not neglect Bahasa Melayu's position in the education system, and in conversations with Chinese education officials, they have assured me that this is not a problem for them," said Anwar.
UEC is awarded to graduates of Chinese Independent High Schools and the Association of United China School Board Malaysia (Dong Zong).
The Minister of Education, Dr. Maszlee Malik, had declared Thursday, July 12 that Pakatan Harapan would stick to his manifesto and recognize the UEC as a legitimate entry. "We will make sure that no matter what policy we take or whatever decision we make take it, there will be no U-turn or flip-flop, and it must be holistic. "
