The arrested policeman, Ajay, is assigned to the Railway Protection Force while the other, Sarvesh, is employed by the UP Police. Cops said that Ajay had already been suspended for misconduct with a colleague. The motive for the murder is not clear. The police, however, suspect that Ajay harbored a grudge against the deceased, Prem Kumar (28).
During the interrogation, Ajay however learns that he intends to kidnap Kumar for ransom, but that he killed him for fear of To be captured. Kumar worked for the same insurance company as his father Ramesh Chand, a resident of Sarai Rohilla north of Delhi, who said: "My son left home around 11am on a motorcycle. 39 he was going to Ajay's house because his friend, Sarvesh, needed to buy an insurance policy of Rs1 crore. "
On July 16, Ajay had called Kumar, claiming that Sarvesh was a specialist in meeting UP Police whose life was still in danger and, as a result, he wanted to insure his family. That day, Kumar had noted the details, including their number, on a blank form. Kumar, however, forgot the form at home while he was leaving for Ajay's house on Wednesday. Around 11:30, his sister saw the form and tried to call him, but his phone was turned off.
When Kumar did not return home late at night, his family started looking for him. They found his bike parked 50 meters from the house of Ajay. But Ajay and his friend Sarvesh were not at home. When Kumar's sister called Sarvesh to the number mentioned on the form, he admitted to meeting Kumar, but claimed that he had left shortly thereafter. He said that they had come for a wedding and that Ajay's phone was disconcerted. The police managed to contact Ajay on Friday and questioned him. He confessed to the murder after prolonged interrogation, police said, and was arrested.
Ajay claimed that he and Sarvesh had killed Kumar after a scuffle. They then packed his body in a trunk and went to Etawah UP where they threw it into the river.
