PETALING JAYA: A Pakatan Harapan MP today claimed that the 2016 Auditor-General’s Department’s report on 1MDB had been tampered with.
Wong Kah Woh (PH-Ipoh Timur) said that the audit report on the scandal-plagued investment arm was classified under the Official Secrets Act (OSA) 1972.
“In fact, there was an abuse of power, where the original audit report was amended on the instructions of specific people.
“Luckily, there was a change of government on May 9. Only then all these can be revisited,” he said when debating the mid-term review of the 11th Malaysia Plan.
The previous administration had classified the audit report in 2016 under the OSA when the fund’s financial troubles were being investigated.
In May, it was reported that senior officials at the state fund withheld information from its board and took some decisions without the board’s approval.
Several high-risk investments were made and the 1MDB management went against the wishes of the board and the shareholders in some instances.
