SHAH ALAM: The 2018 PKR National Congress kicked off with the launch of the youth and women wings’ meeting Thursday night.

Both wings will hold their congresses on Friday whilst the party’s main congregation will take place on Sat and Sun.

In his address after launching today’s event, incumbent deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali said that party members must work towards strengthening party unity after party polls.

He said a strong internal unity was crucial to buffer external threat.

“Winston Churchill had reminded us that ‘when there is no enemy within, the enemies outside cannot hurt you’.

“Let’s all come together, unite and aspire to forge ahead,” said Azmin.

Although an official announcement is yet to be made, Azmin had won in the battle with his opponent former Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli to retain his position as the party’s deputy president.

Azmin’s allies had also clinched three of the party’s four elected vice presidents’ posts, both the women and youth wings’ chief and deputy chiefs’ position as well as 15 out of the 20 Supreme Council positions.

According to Azmin he will work together with the party’s new president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to bring forth a strong and capable stewardship as well as continue the party’s tradition of having a collaborative leadership.

Azmin later told a press conference that he wanted everyone to close ranks and work together for the party as well as for the nation.

“I would like to see all party members and party leaders, including Rafizi, who has contributed a lot towards the reformation struggle to be together for the future of the party,” said Azmin.

Azmin added that he believed that Rafizi has a role to play in the party and he (Azmin) was more than happy to work with everyone including Rafizi to ensure PKR under Anwar’s leadership is strong and inclusive to prepare for the next general election.
