KUALA LUMPUR: A babysitter was accused yesterday in the Selayang court of having abused a boy, having been wounded in the head and disposed of the body to conceal his death.
Noor Aqilah Abd Rahman, 33, pleaded not guilty to two charges read to him by Judge Syafeera Mohd Said.
The court set August 13 as the case reference.
The offenses allegedly occurred at his rented house at Jalan Nakhoda Kiri 3, Batu Caves, between 18:20 and 18:50 on 3 July.
On the first charge, under section 31 (1) (a) of the Children's Act 2001, Noor Aqilah is charged as the guardian of Adam Rayqal Mohd Sufi Naeif, five months old, abused him to the point of causing head trauma.
The law provides for a maximum fine of RM 50,000 or imprisonment of up to 20 years, or both, if sentenced.
Noor Aqilah, who was previously a cook, is also charged with having disposed of Adam Rayqal's body with the intention of concealing his death in order to evade the offense.
The prosecution, under Article 201 of the Penal Code, provides for the sentenced person to be sentenced to a term of imprisonment of up to three years.
Noor Aqilah's lawyers, M Dinesh and Mohd Redzuan Mohamed Yusoff, asked the court to impose minimum bail because she was taking care of her parents suffering from high blood pressure, gout and diarrhea. heart problems.
They also stated that the parents were not working and that the parents who had sent their children to care for Noor Aqilah had found other babysitters since his pre-trial detention.
Mohd Redzuan told the court that her unmarried client had arrested working as a cook to devote herself entirely to childcare and that she also had an adopted child who was disabled and who was now supported by someone else.
The DPP Mr. Arunjothi did not offer bail on the ground that the case was in the public interest and had attracted public attention, and left the care to court to determine the question of the surety.
The court set the bond at RM 18,000 in a bond and provided Noor Aqilah the nearest police station twice a month pending the conclusion of the case.
The media reported on July 3 that Adam Rayqal had been missing in his babysitter's home in the Batu Caves and that the police had found his body in the freezer. at home late at night.
