ALOR SETAR: The British national allegedly stabbed to death by his wife at their home in Langkawi on Thursday (Oct 18) morning was a retired fireman.
Langkawi OCPD Superintendent Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim in a WhatsApp message on Friday (Oct 19) said according to information from the social visit pass, the victim was identified as John William Jones (pic), 63.
The pass was issued by the Putrajaya Immigration Department under the Malaysia My Second Home Programme.
Jones was permitted to enter and remain in Malaysia and Sabah, but prohibited from any form of employment.
The social visit passed obtained by the police had expired on Dec 1, 2010.
However, Supt Mohd Iqbal said it was probably an old social visit pass.
He said he believed the deceased had a valid one which he kept in a safe.
He added that the sister of the victim had arrived in Kedah to identify his remains.
Supt Mohd Iqbal said police were investigating the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
“The suspect will be remanded for six days till Oct 23 for further investigation,” he said.
Based on the police’s first information report, the victim and his wife stayed at PT 2296, Kampung Gelam, Mukim Kedawang in Langkawi.
The house where they stayed is a single storey bungalow built by them near a padi field, 11 years ago.
According to a source, the deceased was found lying near a sofa set in the living room of his house.
The couple had a quarrel and the suspect allegedly stabbed the victim once on the right chest while in their bedroom.
“The deceased ran out from the bedroom towards the kitchen before he collapsed in the living room.
“She found him still alive and sought help from a neighbour in front of their house, who later called the hospital.
“Medical assistants who arrived at their house pronounced him dead on the spot,” said the source.
The same source said the motive of the incident was believed to have been caused by a misunderstanding (confusion) over a family problem.
“Before she allegedly stabbed him, it was said that her husband had challenged her to stab him. He was said to be under the influence of alcohol.”
