KEMAMAN : Two crude oil tanks of the Kemaman Bitumen Company (KBC) in the industrial area of Teluk Kalong, near here, were on fire in an incident at 6:15 pm today.
A witness, Ahmad Aliff Azizi Ahmad Mokhtar, 26, said he could feel the tremor of the explosion caused by the burning tanks located in Bukit Kuang, about four kilometers from his house.
"When the explosion occurred, I was at home in Kampung Bukit Kuang and I saw thick smoke coming from the direction of the industrial zone.
"I knew the incident through the WhatsApps group before going to the scene, after which the authorities told me to stay away from the fire" he said when approached by Bernama on the site of the incident, here today.
Afifah Abdullah, 26, a lecturer in occupational safety and health at the Institute of Ranaco's education and training, Chukai said that the explosion could be heard as far as the city of Chukai.
Mea Meanwhile, a check by Bernama at the location of the fire revealed that firefighters were busy trying to control the spread of fire to nearby oil reservoirs
