KUALA LUMPUR: The Datasonic Bhd Group today announced that it has won the contract for the supply of 12.5 million chips for Malaysian passports as part of an open tender in April 2012.
In a document filed with Bursa Malaysia, Datasonic said the five-year contract was based on the value proposition of enhanced chip security and 15% price reduction over the previous supplier, which represents a total savings of RM 56.25 million over the five-year government.
"We wish to point out that neither the company nor any of its leaders has paid payment to Ahmad Zahid Hamidi for the supply of 12.5 million chips for Malaysian passports," the text adds.
At the lunch break, Datasonic's share price, which was among the top three most active meters, lost 25.5 against RM44 sen with 58.59 million shares traded.
Trading in Datasonic shares was suspended for the remainder of the day as its last price fell by more than 15 Sen, or 15% of the Reference Price.
