Dr M arrives for two-day working visit to Thailand – Nation

BANGKOK: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has arrived here for his two-day official visit that is expected to further strengthen bilateral cooperation between Malaysia and Thailand.

The visit is also part of his introductory visits to neighbouring South-East Asian countries since taking office in May.

The aircraft carrying the Prime Minister, who was accompanied by his wife Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali, landed at the Military Air Terminal Two, Wing 6 of the Don Mueang International Airport at 12.30pm Wednesday (Oct 24) Malaysian time.

They were welcomed on arrival by Thai Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office Suwaphan Tanyuvardhana, Thailand ambassador to Malaysia Narong Sasitorn, Chief of Protocol Nadhavathna Krishnamra and Colonel Titawat Satientip, the Thailand military attache to Dr Mahathir.

Dr Mahathir was also greeted by Foreign Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah, Malaysian Ambassador to Thailand Datuk Jojie Samuel and Defence attache at the Malaysian embassy Brig-Gen Baharuddin Ahmad at the tarmac.

The Prime Minister’s motorcade then headed to Shangri La Hotel where he will be staying during his visit here.

Dr Mahathir will later receive an official welcoming ceremony by his Thai counterpart General Prayut Chan-o-cha at the Government House here where he will be inspecting the Guard of Honour.

There will be a bilateral meeting between the two premiers, followed by a joint press conference with the media later today.

Dr Mahathir leaves for Kuala Lumpur on Thursday (Oct 25) evening.
