Roger Federer, now 37, has reached the age where he is constantly questioned over his retirement plans.

But according to his coach Severin Luthi, the Swiss star still has plenty more in the tank.

Federer has endured mixed fortunes this season, winning the Australian Open at the start of the year to claim his 20th Grand Slam but then suffering a fourth round exit at the US Open.

The tennis icon is now chasing his 100th career title but faces an uphill task if he is to triumph at the ATP Finals this week after losing his opening match to Kei Nishikori on Sunday.

“Of course it can be done quickly with 37 [years of age],” Luthi said.

“But I do not think this is the last time. But that he will certainly continue playing next year.

“And then the ATP final should be an issue again. But we never really talk about retirement.”

Federer returns to the court this evening in the second match of his ATP Finals campaign when he faces Dominic Thiem.
