Aston Martin has confirmed that its first SUV will come into production at the end of 2019 at its new plant in St Athan, Wales, UK. However, the British automaker has not yet released specifications for this upcoming model.
British media reports that Aston Martin's first SUV, based on the DBX concept, presented in 2015 in Pebble Beach, Calif., Could be called the Varekai. The gasoline version should get the firm's V12 engine, but Aston Martin could aim to cook the world's most powerful SUV, ahead of the Lamborghini Urus 650HP, thanks to a hybrid powertrain. For this, the automaker will apparently use a twin-turbo V8 Mercedes-AMG four-liter engine with an electric motor of about 200 hp, or nearly 700 hp.
Competition is growing fierce in the high end. the SUV market, with Aston Martin against Bentley Bentayga, Lamborghini Urus and Rolls-Royce Cullinan. Ferrari also has its first SUV under construction
Note that Aston Martin has another SUV in preparation, this time for its premium brand Lagonda, scheduled for 2021 at the earliest. It is based on the Lagonda Vision Concept, a semi-autonomous vehicle presented at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2018.
