Huawei Kirin 710: This is How It Matters Until Snapdragon 710

Internally, the Kirin 710 chip consists of four Cortex-A73 cores clocked at 2.2 GHz and four other Cortex-A53 cores at 1.7 GHz. In contrast, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 chip is based on the latest 10nm process with two 2.2GHz Kryo 360 Gold cores and six 1.7GHz Kryo 360 Silver cores

Huawei unveiled the Nova 3i last week with its new HiSilicon chipset Kirin 710 Based on a 12nm architecture, Huawei said its latest chipset would offer a single-core performance 75% greater than that of the Kirin 659 with multi-core performance up to 68% higher.

In the latest report of GSMArena the Nova 3i, which is the first device to boast of the Kirin 710, was submitted to Geekbench to give us an idea of what the chipset can do compared at Snapdragon 710. Internally, the Kirin 710 chip is made up of four Cortex-A73 cores clocked at 2.2 GHz and four other Cortex-A53 cores at 1.7 GHz. In contrast, Qualcomm's Snapdragon 710 chip is based on the new 10nm process with two Kryo 360 Gold 2.2GHz cores and six Kryo 360 Silver 1.7GHz cores. These two cores are respectively based on Cortex A75 and A55 which are relatively more recent than those on the Kirin 710.

Using the theory, Geekbench's tests revealed that the Cortex- A75s exceeded the A73 by 20% while the A55 core was 15% faster than a chip based on A53. However, multi-core tests revealed that the Qualcomm chip was only 7% faster than the Kirin 710. The tests were done with the Nova 3i and compared to the Huawei P20 Pro (Kirin 970), the Xiaomi Mi 8 SE ( Snapdragon 710) and Huawei P20 Lite (Kirin 659).

  Huawei Kirin 710

The multi-core tests were stronger for the Kirin 710 because the chipset manufactured by Huawei is powered by four large cores compared to the SND 710 which does not only two. But day-to-day performance comes back to the case where an application or game requires more than two threads.

While the Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 was brought as an upgrade to the 660 chipset with better AI integrations, support for larger camera sensors and face unlocking, the Kirin 710 tells a different story. The 710 chip is twice as powerful as the latest-generation Kirin 659 chip, tested with the Huawei P20 Lite, which places both chips in different classes. Even the multi-core test between the same revealed a significant advantage for the Kirin 710, which will certainly have an impact on the next generation of mid-range smartphones from Huawei and Honor.
